Rumbletum!

Saturday 5th February 2011
Almost home - albeit for a brief visit!
Del spent a relaxed afternoon and night at Mangawai Heads camping ground right beside the beach.
After arriving he discovered that there was no shop which meant no provisions so he decided to make do with his emergency rations - a tin of sardines and .....!!!?
Look out Wellsford! A ravenous cyclist is heading your way today!
Del's decided to have a couple of "easy" days to restore his energy and today plans to cycle to the camping ground by SheepWorld. I'll catch up with him there or en route and treat him to a square meal or two. All being well he should arrive in Orewa around mid-day Sunday. Despite my pleas, he still insists on taking SH1 and negotiating the Waiwera hill on foot! Sunday is the day of the Women's Duathlon so he could be accompanied by 400 females as he pedals down the Main Road!
News Flash! - With a van full of tasty provisions, I caught up with Del in Wellsford this morning. By then he had decided that the weather conditions were so good that he would keep on going to Orewa, covering a total of 78kms over very hilly terrain! He arrived here at 2.30pm, sweaty, tired and very thirsty. I managed to alert our daughter, Julie, and her sons and they welcomed Grandpa with a banner and cheers as he came down the hill from Hatfields Beach into Orewa. He'll take a well earned rest day on Sunday and continue southwards on Monday.
